Artists to watch for 2018

2017 was one of our biggest years for music yet and this year already is not looking like it’s set to slow down. Here are some artists that I believe are to be watched in 2018.

After signing to Black Butter records at the end of last year and more recently, Drake captioning his lyrics to ‘Party Here’, 21-year-old London rapper, Octavian is set for huge things this year.

IAMDDB

Following on from her successful 2017, with ‘Hoodrich Vol. 3’ and her breakthrough track ‘Shade, IAMDDB is definitely one to watch for 2018. With her sultry vocals and jazz influences, do not sleep on IAMDDB, the whole of ‘Hoodrich Vol.3’ is brilliant.

Izzie Gibbs

Northampton rapper Izzie Gibbs has been putting work in the UK Urban music scene since early, with his iconic freestyles, however for some reason people are still sleeping on him.  He had a successful 2017, supporting Bugzy Malone on his ‘King Of The North’ tour, I know that he has big plans for 2018 and be keeping his work output high.

Mahalia

With her breakthrough track ‘Sober’, Leicester born singer Mahalia is set for great things, too. With a more R&B sound, Mahalia is gaining popularity and stealing hearts with her unique and old school sound, all over.

One Acen

After Hardy Caprio featured him on ‘Unsigned’, One Acen has gained much popularity over the last year and 2018 is definitely his. He will be supporting Hardy Caprio’s headline shows this year, too. They’re a dynamic duo, for sure.

Alma

A particular favourite discovery of mine in 2017, finnish singer song writer Alma, is definitely set to be everywhere you turn this year if she continues with her content output and providing us with bangers. ‘Chasing Highs’ was her iconic breakthrough track, but other brilliant ones are ‘Karma’, ‘Dye My Hair’ and the more recent one with French Montana ‘ Phases‘.

Sigrid

After her breakthrough single ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’, Norwegian pop singer with an edgy side, Sigrid is definitely a name that has been buzzing around for a while. I am looking forward to what she brings for us in 2018.

Tom Walker

With his distinguished, gravel tone and warm sound, Tom Walker has been making big moves in the Indie scene for a while but 2018 is his, definitely. With his track ‘Fly Away With Me’ and his more recent ‘Leave The Light On’, I am predicting that by the end of 2018, he will be a far more recognised name, and deservedly so as he has an incredible voice.

Artists that had a surprisingly good 2017

Yxng Bane

After his breakthrough track featuring Kojo Funds, ‘Fine Wine’ in 2016, Yxng Bane went on to do so well in 2017, with his ‘Shape Of You’ Ed Sheeran remix, and then ‘Rihanna’ (which has now collated over 11 million views on YouTube). He also had a chart hitting single with rapper Yungen ‘Bestie’, which was definitely one of the song’s of the year for 2017; everywhere you turned it was being played!

J Hus

While J Hus, for me anyway, was always a big name, 2017 was an incredible year for him. Releasing his debut album ‘Common Sense’ to the reaction it received was a huge achievement. ‘Did You See’ was named as the Best Song of the year by the MOBO’s and he has also now been nominated for Brit Awards, due to his success last year. He worked so hard and it paid off as everyone now know’s who he is, if they didn’t already.
